homes onlineWhile homebuyer needs may not be what they were just a few months ago, many people are still ready to move and looking to purchase. Real estate companies such as Zillow, Redfin and Rently are stepping up their technology to accommodate those who wish to tour homes while still abiding by social distancing guidelines.

Zillow, a home listing site, says it saw a 191% increase in 3D home tours during the first weeks of March compared with the average number of 3D tours created in February. Redfin, a real estate brokerage, showed a 494% increase in requests for agent-led video home tours, as well as an increase in video-chat tours.

Rently, a software company that produces digital lockboxes, gives buyers the ability to tour empty homes on their own. A prospective buyer can register their information online and then access the lockbox with a smartphone and valid ID. Rently says its demand is soaring and that the company anticipated a 30% increase in home tours from March 2019 to March 2020.

Zenplace, a real estate startup, specializes in virtual tours as well as tours with robots. Zenplace’s robots have a screen where the agent can speak with the customer through a video chat while leading the customer around the home.
